If you haven't checked already, GS have released an updated library - for the US version anyway. It's dated July 4

Welcome aboard, Rob! Hopefully you'll become part of the merry band of Archicad power users, who love the product and what it can do but have also become a little too familiar with its limitations and GS's development behavior.

please see the installation guide for goodies related to accessories library. where should the access lib go now?
thanks!
It's Friday the 13th today, right?

You should place additional Libraries outside the ArchiCAD Library 11 folder. It is still a good idea to place them inside the ArchiCAD 11 folder, but not into the Library folder, but drop the LCF directly into the ArchiCAD 11 folder.

It's also not a huge problem if you drop it into the ArchiCAD Library 11 folder - if you put more than one LCF files into the ArchiCAD Library 11 folder, then the Library update will not be able to tell which has the correct date. In this case, if you manually "check for update", then you will still be offered the newest library. (The automatic checker that visits our server once a week will not prompt you to update in this case). Basically, this is the same as it was in ArchiCAD 10.

hi greg,
so far it has been just another friday. but there still are 8 1/2 hours left!
i have downloaded the library files again & i still show the 4th of july file date, maybe it is a date thing...
i still get the screen sim to karl's from a few days ago. guess i could try a new download.
just to make sure i have my libraries in order here is another screenshot. the lcf is the only file not in a secondary folder of the v11 library folder. this is the same way my v10 library was setup with no update problems.
not sure if it makes any difference but i am on an older g4 ppc mac. guess i will have to update here in a few years right?
thanks & have a great weekend,
tim

Tim:
Dragging the "Accessories Library" from the "ArchiCAD Library 11" folder to the "ArchiCAD 11" folder. Should solve the date issue.

BUT, You then need to open Library Manager and reload the "Accessories Library" from it's "new" location. You would need to do this to each AC11 project and your template. See Karl's post on page 2 (usability issue).

Welcome Rob Letsleavitatthat. Thanks for the bio. More than I ever expected. I would still recomend you update your profile (to let folks know where you're located) and add a signature (to let them know your name, firm, AC version and hardware specs). After all not everyone is following this topic.

BTW, mind telling us what GS is doing to help make AC a success at B&A?

The usability thing is that if we put the Accessories add-on in our add-ons folder (I make a Goodies subfolder), then if we do not place the corresponding lcf in our main lib folder, the 'new from template' will not find the parts needed by the add-on. Going into Lib Manager each time is not really an option, and most users will not want to redefine the default template. Creating an "Accessories" folder under "ArchiCAD Library 11" and placing the LCF into there solves this one.
Clearly there is a conflict here. Graphisoft needs to resolve this.

first off - from a management perspective, dropping additional LCFs in to the root archicad library is sometimes the only way to ensure that people are loading everything they should be.

and secondly, i would expect the archicad library to be the default place to install graphisoft's own additional libraries . . . i.e. the accessories LCF. that your update system can't distinguish is something that GRAPHISOFT need to work on, and not expect your users to mess around with.
if you put more than one LCF files into the ArchiCAD Library 11 folder, then the Library update will not be able to tell which has the correct date. i have ditched the accessories LCF from my library, reloaded and still get the 'invalid' statement as shown. please can you just put a link at the bottom of the update page to all of your past library versions? why so secret about people downloading libraries anyway? without an archicad license they're useless . . .

and another thing: why do you keep all of the localisations secret from each other too? does it really matter if an INT user downloads a GER library? or a SWE library? there might be some great objects in them that aren't included in the default install.

it strikes me that you are trying to be too clever with the whole update system! it's got to work!

cheers!

Come on, Ben! Don't shoot the messenger! I think you mean "Graphisoft" where you have "you" everywhere? Give Greg a break! It's been great that he's jumped into the forums to communicate some of the issues and announce various product updates and releases. Let's keep him here to maintain dialog, rather than beat him up and have him run for the hills, eh?

Cheers,
Karl

i do . . . whenever i'm writing to a GS employee and use "you" i always mean "graphisoft". maybe that's why nobody there likes me anymore? they all took it too personally?!

and yes, greg, i do appreciate your participation here, but you - as in "graphisoft" - need to sort yourselves - as in "graphiosft-the-company" - out! you ("graphisoft") can't even implement an automatic-update feature without it stumbling over itself and requiring workarounds! we're not talking about cheap software here, so something has got to start happening soon to make things work!

cheers!
