Stadium seating

Hello,
I am working on my thesis project which is a football stadium with a capacity of about 25 000 seats.
I've seen some tutorials about making the seats in other software but I prefer to use ArchiCAD.
My question - Is there a way to create a single ( or a row of seatings) and then to do some trick that can minimize the amount of polygons generated because I've done similar projects ( Sports Arena with a capacity of 5 000) and the file was really heavy and awful to manage when it came time for rendering...
Thank you for your answers in advance!
Best regards,
D. Angelov

Dimitar:

One option is to start with an Object, convert it to a Morph, then use the Morph Modify Segmentation... > Fewer Segments command to reduce the number of polygons, then save the altered Morph as an Object for placing in the model. The converted object will not be parametric as the original, so set the parameters before conversion. If you go to Help > ArchiCAD Downloads, you can get to the Goodies download page, where you can download the Polygon Counting Tool which will tell you how many polygons are in the Morph as you simplify it.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

Have you tried the audience seating part from the library?

It offers control over complexity fairly well.

I've used it before for a mockup, see below.

The curved option is a bit fiddly, though, if you are looking for curved seating. You can get decent results, but need to place more than one instance of the object once the seats start spacing out too much. You can only set a fixed number of chairs per row, so after 5 or 6 rows the spacing becomes too big.

Thank you guys for your help, special thanks for Erwin. This is a great object and I'm really pleased with the result and the amount of time it took me to achieve it.

Hey, no worries! It looks great already!

If you need some information for stadium design: http://www.scribd.com/doc/13320073/Stadia-A-Design-and-Development-Guide this book is great.
