Textures not loading

Has anyone else had issues with switching projects and textures not linking anymore. I can't switch from one project to another with out closing the program completely. If I just open them with a project running I get the pink/purple and black square texture and missing doors and windows. It happened on version 29 also. 28 I was fine. Just the last two versions are the issue. If I don't notice the textures missing and save it will save like that and I can't get them to go back.
