any AppleScript gurus out there?

Hi,
I’m hoping someone familiar with AppleScript can help me modify a little script I uncovered from the AC7 days that enables OS X users to launch multiple AC sessions. It was written as a TeamWork fix but works even now with AC9. With some tweaking I think it could become the preferred way to open multiple projects.

hi geoff

what exactly do you want to do with it? i no longer use it because simply copying the application file a couple of times gives me the potential for as many sessions as i need. plotmaker as well.

are you hoping to have a drag-and-drop script that automatically fires up a different session?

Yes, I was hoping the script could be modified such that every time you ran it you'd get another AC session. Currently you have to copy and rename the script for each session, but clearly OS X supports multiple sessions, at least the Unix core does. I'm hoping that the right person can rewrite the script for the general benefit of all OS X users.

Dear Geoff,

If I understand your post, I still have a copy of the two icon (applets) that I drag the Archicad icon into to launch 2 sessions at once. Is this what you want? Email me directly and I will attached them back to you.

i'm still not actually seeing the benefit . . . is it purely to save hard disk space so that you don't have to copy the app file again and again? (remember that it is only the application file itself that needs copying into the same application folder). i would actually say that it's safer to copy the application and rename it ("archiCAD TWO", or something) because then it's definitely given separate processing threads from the other and there's far less chance of something going wrong . . . (not that i actually know much about that kind of stuff ).

i have three archiCAD's in my dock and two plotmakers. i guess you could argue that this takes up a lot of dock real estate, but it's never really bothered me.

I have the old droplet, thanks. And no I don't know if there is any benefit but doubt there is any real danger. It just seemed like a cool way to do it and if retooled maybe get as many sessions running as you want. Not a big deal really, but back to my original question:

Are there any AppleScript gurus out there?

I wouldn't call myself a 'guru', but I've written a number of tools with AppleScript. I can take a look at the problem if you send the script to me with a description of functionality you're looking for.

I am attaching the old droplet which was originaly intended to open AC 7 in TeamWork "safe" mode, whatever that is. It still works to open a second session of any ArchiCAD, including 9. Dropping a running AC session onto the droplet results in a new session. To get a third you need to force quite the droptlet and do it again. What I am hoping someone familiar with AppleScript can do is create a stand alone app, not a droplet, that will open another session of AC every time it is run. I don't know if this is possible or what it will take, but the very existence of the droplet makes me think it might not be that hard. Thanks for taking a stab at it.
