library part list for AC 8 up

hi there.

i am looking for advice on how to generate quickly a list of all the library parts of AC 8/8.1.
this used to be done rather quickly through listing the folder structure with applescript, but since the AC 8 library consists of .pla files this does not work anymore...

thx in advance, daniel.

I remember a tip, but not the name of the author, sorry for him.

In the library manager, trash the library, and reopen your project.
The download library rapport will indicate every missing parts.
You can print this rapport and have the names of all elements.

You could open the pla file and, when prompted, save the library to a location you chose and then use the same methods you used previously.

thx guys for the quick replies.

not exactly what i had in mind - i guess i should have been more specific as to what i am trying to achieve by getting such list... please read on below.

that is exactly the tip i needed and also encourages me to read more about .pla (which we also think of incorporating into a our process) - which is something i wanted to do for quite a while now... THX.

for those of you who wonder what does he need that for, here the answer: i am working for a medium sized firm and we currently try to streamline our archicad setup - this includes standardizing the usage of library parts, which will probably result in us replacing the standard ac8library by our own supplemented by a project specific library. so in order to get a better understanding of exactly which parts we are currently using the most and which ones are redundant, i need the list which i then verify with lists of used libparts of a representative cross section of our projects in excel (using CompareRange in VB).

thx again, daniel.

As a footnote to this topic I just noticed that in the Find and Select tool, if you have Find Elements set to "All Types" and set Choices to "Name", a triangular arrow appears to the right of the name panel.

Click the arrow and a full scrolling list of the library parts used in the project appears. It doesn't seem to be printable, but is still a good resource for the type of library management you are doing.
cheers
Daniel
