First, say what is the Archicad, operating system, and the computer you work with.

The Bug reporter should be filled (use the Edit button) and sent, not closed. It sends the data about your crash to the Graphisoft Tech Support.

And, your location - meaning at least the country that you are in - is also important because your problems might be referred to or followed up with your country's technical support

No need for secrecy ... people can help only if they know that you have a problem and where to find you.

This is the second or third report that opening a SketchUp model crashes Archicad, but the circumstances are usually not described, so how can anyone help you ?!?!?!

FWIW, his answer was a hint to display more info to be able to help you. The SketchUp add-in does work and the student version of ArchiCAD is compatible with the regular version, thus so far there is no indication as to what is going wrong.

Does it work with a very simple SketchUp model?
Which version of SketchUp are you using?
Which version of ArchiCAD?
Which operating system?

I have had a similar problem with SketchUp 6 and ArchiCAD 10. It appears the importer was designed for SketchUp 5 and has not been updated for either SketchUp 6 or Google SketchUp. Anytime I try to import a SU file it crashes AC and I get the bug reporter.

Also, I understand that professional firms should not use Google SketchUp for most students, that is a common denominator these days and no matter how much ArchiCAD Graphisoft gives away to students, if the SketchUp translator doesn't work, AC is dead in the water.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Brian

Export the SketchUp 6 file to the SketchUp 5 format.

Frankly, ArchiCAD does not need SketchUp. While the modeling abilities in SketchUp are nice, they don't apply well in the BIM model from ArchiCAD. It would recreate the building with native ArchiCAD elements rather than by importing them from a SketchUp model.

ArchiCAD can survive nicely without SketchUp, but the two play together well.

And SketchUp is indeed very popular with students, but don't assume that professional users should not use it as well.

Not for me. So far I have been unable to get the SketchUp add-on to work (crashes ArchiCAD). I tried saving to older (and newer) formats but still no joy. I ended up having to export to 3DS to get some SU models into AC yesterday. The 3DS was also a bit flaky, but I haven't had time to check if it was on the outbound or inbound leg.

There are very compelling reasons for ArchiCAD to work with SketchUp. In the world of day to day practice it is necessary to get results in whatever way is most effective. Sometimes this means slamming together some SketchUp models in an ArchiCAD master plan.

It would also be nice to get ArchiCAD models out reliably to Google Earth which I have so far been unable to do as well.

Is it possible that the add-ons have some problem with the MacBook Pro running XP? It shouldn't, but I keep hearing of other people getting these things to work and so far I have had no success. (...and still not available for OSX )

On Windows both things work relatively well; might this only be MacTel problem?
