Hi, I'm a complete novice when its comes to computer drafting programmes and recently downloaded version 10 through University along with the interactive traing guide. I have been working my way steadily through it, but continue to encounter slight problems and errors with basic elements, such as walls and roofs, when moving into my sections. I was wondering if there are any published help books for `ArchiCAD` or basic training websites, which can help me improve my knoweledge? I hope to have a decent understanding of the package by the end of June, is this possible as well?

robertson - just what slight problems are you encountering? maybe we can help here. i don't believe that there is any definitive "archicad for dummies" book out there. there all of the interactive training guides and step-by-steps, training sessions with your local dealers, the wiki and of course here . . .

Even flailing about as you are doing will get you functioning in a month, but one hour with an expert will get you set right from the get-go.

Minor problems; when drawing simple pitched roofs, I choose my pitch then direction in one direction, then use the same command and do the opposite in the other direction, but when i go into my sections, at the intersection, or the pitch of the roof, the roof is drawn in two parts and the lines of the drawing cross over. I've tried grouping the elements and using the command once but no such luck. Still working through the interactive guide, and finding it very useful, using the knoweledge I have of the commands now to draw up my own work.

The solution to your roof problem is an easy one, but there will be many more problems like this (easily fixed) that you will come across without training. But, I suppose as a student, that's what this is all about.

Roof: Your top edges are not vertical. (check barge ends too, they may be incorrect also). You can adjust this with the pet pallette fascia angle option(see image below), but it is more thorough to do it this way - Stretch roof edges away from each other (using pet palette Offset edge). Select one roof, CTRL-click on the other roof and it will project to the correct ridge line, and have correct edge treatment. Select other roof and do same.
