Hi,
AC17 is great really, But it's really annoying, In 3D view when I move object (form, wall, slab...) in heigt AC auto change the level assignment. And it is not a good thing !!!

Is there a way to disable this auto-function?

I find this very frustrating too. Especially with Favorites. In 16 you could be sure when you select an object, wall, whatever it came in where you expect it, but not anymore. It requires extra steps to reset the desired story.. which can be iffy. The "preferences" for Favorites will not hold the settings for ignoring off-sets once you open a pre 17 file (it reverts to being unchecked). I think GS knows that is a bug, but it really came up after RC1, so I don't know... but very frustrating when you are in a hurry (or not) and have to once again reselect and choose the story it always came in on before (ie.. the one you are on.. well, in 2D plan view at any rate).

I first noticed this issue when stretching some first floor walls down a few inches to cover a plate and presto they were assigned to a new level! I mean come on, the other 10 feet of the wall is on the first floor but since I move a few inches into the level below the wall moves?!

Worse still, I didn't realize it was happening until I went back to the floor plan and all my exterior walls were gone.

Try moving a hotlink in section. Doesn't seem to change the story plan location
The really bad this is that we end up changing the floor plan display by moving something in section. Not good. Sounds like another program I won't mention.

A video capture I just made, sorry it is French (Abvent support doesn't understand english...)

But You can figure out what sort of problem the new auto level-assignement do. What a mess to move a little bit a wall in section.

Hum, don't forget to Hold Group oterwise you can't assign a level...
Seriously Graphisoft? No one in beta testing program ever report this?

As ejrolon said, you have it .

1- For every element (wall, slab, beam, morp, object...) reassign to story -> Manual or Automatic Button, check box. And an option check box in their own properties Assign to level -> Freeze level (or whatever)

2- Same as Ejrolon said.
or to not reinvent the wheel... something like the gravity button....?

The tracker shows the change while editing. While it is an extra step, you can tell AC to keep the home story. Also, for these type of walls, enable the "show in all relevant stories" display option. You have it set to "show in home story only" so when AC changes (by design) the home story by elevation, they disappear from the original level.

But still, I can see the problems this might generate, and not only with walls, but with any other kind of element, specially with elements that should never move (e.g. site)

A very simple option for EVERY construction element's base: LINKED or FREE.
That's all it's really needed.

If you LATER decide to link some elements to a story, AC should read current element's levels and link them accordingly, THEN they should move with story level changes.

Just my thoughts.
Best regards.

I just ran into this on my first project in 17 and as far as I am concerned THIS IS A HUGE F**KING PROBLEM WHICH IS GOING TO COST ME HOURS OF WORK AND MAJOR FRUSTRATIONS.

This used to be one of ArchiCAD's big advantages over Revit. One could reassign an element's associated level in 3D without changing elevation. This is a MAJOR loss of functionality.

I will see if I can find workarounds. It looks like the best case scenario means a bunch of extra work doing things that were relatively effortless before. Worst case is that I'll have to give up using ArchiCAD for some project types.
