AC University & Student file naming OOPS in Spanish

I was showing AC to a class of freshmen and after explaining the difference between AC student, univ and pro I got some laughs. I had not realized it before but the PNE extension of the student and univ version has the following problem when pronounced in spanish.

"punto Pe+eNe+E" (.PNE) when pronounced sounds like the name for the male reproductive organ in spanish. I don't think this is GS intention or I hope it isn't.

😉

The new student version is identical to a commercial version, so that problem is solved. Apparantly, I got a Pay-Per-Use dongle with it. Not sure what happens when it expires.

AFAIK it can be re-charged.

Actually there is a difference between the student and university versions and that is that the student does not import dwg's and it prints the "student version of AC" from PM. The Univ version is the same as the professional except for the extension, though I still have not tried to upgrade it to the most recent build.

Not in Belgium. I got a full AC9 box, including manuals and an USB dongle. It is a version identical as the commercial version. The dongle is not a permanent one and that's the difference, but apart from that, there is no functional limitation whatsoever. I did need to provide the reseller with a copy of my student registration and copies of student card and indentity card.

I can compare, since I have a full commercial version too (an expensive investment I made a few years ago, before I returned to an academic environment).

Well, the Hungarian version also opens DXF and DWG files. The restriction is that you can not Save dwg or dxf, so 3D information can not be exported from Educatoinal Version. Neither mod files can be imported 😞 however some manufacturers offer them for use with ArchiCAD. In 6.0 it was enough to rename the file extension but that time is over... 🙂
(The other restriction is only a little bit annoying restriction... Plotmaker/any print manager program/or your scissors can help you to cut the border 🙂 Anyway in the university nobody was interested at the border, now finally I work in an office where every software are clean, so not interested anymore at the edu version.
