AC10 crashing in 3D window

I have a small residential project that was originally created in AC9 and now converted to AC10. I've removed every duplicate library part, yet when I try to select a wall (for example) in the 3D window, the program disappears from the desktop (rather than locking up). I still get a bug report and have submitted the problem. Has anyone else noticed this?

try a merge into a fresh AC10 file

Had the same problem until I removed an xreferenced drawing and re-attached it. Then the problem went away.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, it's too late to try and merge the original AC9 file into a fresh AC10 file as I've completed too much work since then and will be finishing it up this weekend anyway. I don't have any x-refs or other files attached AND it's a very small project in comparison to some of the 100,000sf+ projects I'm used to working on.

I used the AC9 special edition Library w/ companion AC9 for special ed library, but these libraries do not generate any duplicate warnings when loaded together (as they shouldn't). This is a very simple project...I can't imagine trying to bring a large project that's already really far along into such an unstable AC release.

I'm not sure why you are focused on the duplicate parts issue. This has never in my experience been a cause for crashes. It is just a warning in case some of the duplicates are actually different and is generally a benign problem.

AC10 is not an unstable release. A great many projects of all sizes have been migrated from AC9 to AC10 and your problem is not typical. There were many issues raised (very heatedly at times) in the beta forum regarding the complexity of migrating to the combined AC/PM format, but I can recall no significant problems with crashing. In my experience even the pre-beta was quite stable. This release has been very thoroughly tested. You should not extrapolate your singular problem to being an endemic issue.

Is this the only project you have converted? If this happens consistently with other projects then you probably have a problem with the installation (or perhaps your RAM - the evaporating program type of crash is often RAM related).

I think you need to do a little more investigation to isolate the source of the problem. If you can, try opening the file on another machine and open other files on the same machine. This will tell you if it is the file or the computer.

Hey,
i know this is an old post but just found it as i've been having exactly the same problem, although i never attributed it to duplicate libraries.

In the end i updated and re-installed my graphic card driver and it cleared the problem up, might work for you too as i had no word back from Hungary when i sent off my bug reports.

HTH,

Richard.

The reason I thought libraries may be the bugger is because I did see different results at first when loading different libraries together. I also noticed that when I open a fresh AC10 file everything seems to be fine. If I merge my AC9 prototype into AC10 the trouble comes back. I reconstructed my prototype settings from scratch and everything works fine until I merge or copy/ paste something from an AC9 project. I'm sure everyone likes to borrow details and other data from similar projects, but this is impossible for me now. On my small projects this is irritating, but for large projects it is far beyond irritating.

I'll try the video card driver upgrade...I really appreciate the tip. My computer is only 2 years old though. I'm suprised I haven't heard from more people with this problem (which is encouraging). Maybe my it's my computer...maybe my prototype has a disagreement with AC10 as all of my AC9 files were created from it?

All in all I love everything about AC10 other than the fact that I can't work much in 3D (isn't that the point of using AC?) As an AC consultant for a 30 person firm with some temperamental computers, I'm NOT recommending the upgrade until I figure this problem out!

Bearing in mind what you just said Eric, perhaps instead of copying and pasting from AC9 projects into AC10 projects, or merging projects, you should take the time to properly migrate the project to an AC10 file, then copy the elements over as they should then technically be AC10 files?

I'm at the AC9 office right now and do not have the book or AC10 with me, from what I remember the AC10 manual suggests "merging" the model first into a clean AC10 file and then "merge" the layout book.

Is there a better method for "migrating" the info? I don't recall a "migrate" command? I just browsed the recent posts and must have missed anything about proper migration. I'm about to start some new projects in AC10 and would really like to see it work right this time. I appreciate any wisdom you guys/gals can share!
