Another Question: Is there more tools for Struct. Engineers?

I found the Truss Joist but how about:

Steel Beams?
Continuous Footings?
Retaining walls?
Standard Stud Wall Framing?
Rebar?

Thing of that sort.

I have heard about Frame Wright. Does that design stud walls or just custom gazebos and things like that ?

Any tools for a structural engineer would be helpful.

There is an extensive American Standard Steel library in the Archicad object library.

There is a wall framer under Accessories, but it is not great,

The others can be done, but there not dedicated tools for them. You could make foundations and retaining walls with the Wall and Slab tools, perhaps using Solid Element Operations to cut forms into one another. There is a cylinder object you could use for rebar.

I guess the short answer is yes you could do these, but aside from the steel library there is little that is dedicated to structural systems.

These all sound like good items for the wish list. It would be great if we could have some more comprehensive and/or dedicated tools for structural needs.

I've found that many of these kinds of tools are necessary even if you aren't a structural engineer....basically sometimes its hard to properly model the basic building without proper foundaton tools, etc.

Why don't you post the wish if it isn't already there?

Also, DZ, be sure to review all of the library parts in the Detail library (previously called MSA)... over 600 in all. While 2D, things like holddowns, hangers, J-bolts, etc. are invaluable for embellishing sections or details or creating independent 2D details. Be sure to read the PDF User's Guide and work through the tutorials.

I am working with a structural engineer to get him up and running on ArchiCAD. While the tools aren't all there yet, there are a lot of things that do work pretty well.

We are still reviewing the various things that are presently available, and I am working on a few of the most critical bits to fill in some of the holes (wood framing mostly for now). One we are done I expect that we will have a pretty serviceable set up for structural drawings and models. I will post back here when I have more to report.

Framewright is for timberframing. They have developed many great library partsas well as a method for implimenting it in archicad through generating BOMs.

Ralph Wessel, of Framewright, is an active participant on this forum. They have a demo version you can download if interested.
