ArchiCAD 11

ArchiCAD 11 will come soon (as much as I suspect..)
What can AC 11 do better than AC10?

I think I can agree with you about that. At least for the most part.

Would you go so far as to say that ArchiCAD is Architetural Software and that Constructor is Buildier Software, and that ArchiCAD has no need to be what Constructor is?

If you would, I think Graphisoft (or what ever it is called now) and VICO agree with you.

This makes my point crystal clear.

Because VICO is doing the other side of things, ArchiCAD may quit trying.

They may start focusing on more of the type of features we got in 11.

What's the motivation for ArchiCAD to pursue full BIM capabilities?

VICO software already does it better and has everything that ArchiCAD has. ( I am still not sure about this )

Most Architects don't want anything to do with this side of it, and neither does the majority of ArchiCAD users.

I am going to go out on a limb to make a prediction;

I think VICO is going to loosen the grip they have on their software,
making it more availabe to ArchiCAD users in the form of plug-ins, add-ons, what ever you want to call it.

By that I mean we will be able to upgrade to Constructor (if thats what you want to call it) with out having to also buy, and subscribe to as many of the other programs they are requireing you to by with it at this time.

That would work for me!! I have tried to contact VICO to ask if I can somehow make the change but I get no response from them. My question is : Does VICO actually exist? or Is it the equilivent of an "answering service" that hasn't answered the phone?

Residential builders want a spreadsheet with quantity takeoffs for the plans they use.
Is this a part of your standard scope of work or do you charge an extra fee for this service? Isn't it against the AIA standards of professional practice for architects to take responsibility of quantities?
I do charge extra for that, but it is expected anymore. I do state that the quantities are for estimating, and not guaranteed. I'm not at all concern what the AIA says.. I do what I think is appropriate for my work. Why shouldn't I provide a take off? I know how. I never actually joined that club anyway.. thought it was pretty silly, and your statement underscored my opinion of it (BS):) Oh my.. I must be one of those.

Just from curiosity - are you an architect or architect builder? I say it from both sides - for a long time I worked for residential company, and we never have been providing takeoffs - unless we have been paid extra (once I remember) - and the we used tools included in AC
Yes, I are one... for over 30 years now. I do charge extra as post above, and only started doing them in the 90's after it became common to offer them. I export to excel, so I can tinker with them a little, and the end used can import them.

Hey Rick, would you consider joining the AIBD? We would appreciate your attitude.

Certainly not necessary, but definitely taken into consideration with Liability Insurance Policies. There are certain things our insurance company simply will not let us do...
MacBook Pro Apple M2 Max, 96 GB of RAM
AC27 US (5003) on Mac OS Ventura 13.6.2
Started on AC4.0 in 91/92/93; full-time user since AC8.1 in 2004

They have provided me with very good response. However, if they perceive that you are not a Contractor, I am sure they will try to talk you out of it.

Here is another prediction. I think if VICO does not shift a little in how their products are marketed, they may quit selling it completely.

They will keep it as in-house proprietary software they use to provide the construction services they offer. The program will not be for sale anymore. Only the service.

This is already very clearly their preference.

Inevitably, ArchiCAD will have the abilities to export its BIM data to other Construction software programs.

Including some of the very same programs that come with the VICO products.

As I keep saying, the ArchiCAD BIM data in not much use if you can't use the data.

ArchiCAD is almost there now. I would like to see it completed.
They could have been way ahead of the game by now.
