Exactly.
That is why we should all get links to download the software.
All GS has to do is find out from their customers who would rather download or get physical package. 75% or more will say download. Now this will make GS even more environmentally friendly. Also it will save me shipping cost.
Surely GS will save tons on packaging also.

Maybe this should be a new topic "DOWNLOAD or SHIPMENT"

I'd rather have a hard copy of the Reference Manual and download the software -- the Reference Manual gets used, the [38] CDs just sit on a shelf. Also -- the box within a box within a box packaging is a little extreme.

I had mixed feelings on receiving my physical box yesterday.

From a design POV, I thought that the packaging was the most elegant that Graphisoft has delivered. Beautiful box with magnetic closure, nested cavities inside for the two manuals and DVD case.

But, I was concerned, too, about the environmental impact. I just pulled the black foam inner liner out and see on the reverse that it is PaperFoam:

and can be recycled with paper. That seems pretty innovative.

The DVD case itself is cardboard and PaperFoam - again, no plastic.

I don't see anything on the manuals to suggest recycled paper or soy inks, which would have been nice, and the black ink coverage on the package as well as the magnets are not too environmentally friendly.

I never got a retail box for 12 (my choice to lower the environmental impact), but prior to 12, the DVD's and CD's were always in plastic cases, so this at least seems a step forward. And, the delivered manuals are a fraction of the thousands of pages that were delivered with 6.5, for example, so I suppose that helps even if they are not post-consumer and vegetable inked which I'd like to see in the future...

Got my AC13 last week, have been testing this and that, and now put into full practice w/ an ongoing project that was started in 12. No glitches, smooth migration so far.
