For the record:
I have had R2 crashing while saving and having an object selected, on Mac OS X have not tried it in XP. Besides that I have had no other problems yet.

2 things

Anyone else crashing if they save with something selected? This might not always happen, but several times as I save... example - just in case the section I am deleting is the wrong one, AC crashes (build 2256)... big help to save.

I moved preference to a new computer, and now I am warned that add-ons are missing. It is the "check doubles" add-on, and it is actually there, but also listed as "not found" (so twice), and it want let me remove it. Any suggestions, maybe which preference stores those?

thanks
This was my first surprise-!! Selecting save from the file menu has caused a few crashes, wether or not anything was selected on the floor plan, it has not happened with the key commands.

Other issues for me are with PM and BGAC. I read all my drawings from a pla and if I make changes in AC while BGAC is running I need to force it to quit before it will update the drawings. The other issue in PM is the inability to use the mouse wheel to zoom and pan while creating elements.

Okay, this is getting a bit frustrating for me (and I imagine others also). Is this R2 a beta or is it a full working update? If it behaves like beta, smells like beta, but was misslabeled, could someone from GS please rename it to beta? Or if it works.... errrr... nevermind. Apparently it doesn't (from reading all your comments). I shudder to think of how many people I might've killed had I installed it and needed to get something out quickly - I'm still on 8.1 luckily (which has begun to act up at times also).

So when can we expect the working version (version 8.2.1 or so)? I mean I probably wouldn't mind so much if it wouldn't be used to generate income, but since it is...

Or did I just missunderstand this whole thread? (Or should this question be asked somewhere else?)

Disclaimer: I love ArchiCAD, but that's only if it works the way it's supposed to (and I can even live with a few minor glitches). But otherwise it's just an extremely expensive source of frustration.

I don't understand this R1/V1, R2/V2 numbering thing. Is there a reason that GS can't just number them 8.1.1 and 8.1.2 just like everyone else? (I suppose they could call it ArchiCAD 2004 service pack 2 like M$ and Autodesk )

Everything has run smoothly for me after installing build 2256 so far, BUT I still experience a problem that has plagued me since I tried 8.0 last winter:

Whenever I launch AC with any file that was created with 7.0, the application flashes the default settings for a sec (white background, grey gridlines etc.), then opens my file with all of the toolbars shrunk, data safety reset etc. I've tried to launch AC 1st, then open the file and I know I'm not telling AC to Open and Reset - what gives?

I haven't seen anyone comment on this annoyance in this thread - am I the only one experiencing this inconvenience? Am I doing something wrong? I was hoping that this build would take care of this (and a couple of other issues) but, alas, I guess I'll have to wait 'till AC 9 (10, 11?)

OK,
I have installed the 8.1 v2 Upgrade; Updater, Library and IFC (AC81R2_IFC_2x2_35270)
and I can not even launch the application!!!????
I get the following warning Message -see attached. Shared library Error?
What shared library?
I am on a stand alone platform. No servers.

Has anyone any idea what is going on?

A shared library is a code fragment used by the application and has nothing to do with the object libraries or the network.

A fresh install would probably fix things up.

Thanks Matthew,
I have done a new install and the results were the same.

But I have gone in to the ArchiCAD folder, on my hard drive, and I have notice that the Upgrade created an 'Old" folder for the library Update and the program itself; the new updated version was named: ArchiCAD
and the old was: ArchiCAD 8.1 .old (!)
Same for the library folder.

When I start archiCAD I do it from the Alias on my desktop, which would activate the old version of ArchiCAD! Hence the message!

I have attached a pict file to illustrate the Folder organization after the update.
It strikes me that perhaps some of the problems people report having could be generated by similiar glitches and omissions in update procedure. I have done some easy and preliminary work on some older files and so far, knock on wood no problems
Hope this continues...

Have you tried trashing Graphisoft Presfs and Cache in your home/library folder?
