Dear Archi-Talkers,

Have you ever been in a situation where you were questioned about your level of skill using ArchiCAD, and you have only your own words to rate your abilities? With Graphisoft's recently launched on-line testing resource, now you can measure your ArchiCAD knowledge against an authorized global standard. Please click on the below URL for details of our User Certification Program...

Hopefully nobody will be refering to these results on their c.v. It is only an example test, not proper certification. I'm just happy I scored more than the 10% I got first off!

If Graphisoft gets it right it should lead to a test by which employers can evaluate candidates, either by taking the (the relevant parts of the) test themselves during the interview or by depending on certifications awarded by the distributors based on tests carried out under their supervision.

Then you would have job searches asking for such and such level of competence. And you would want to put your results in your resume also. Things like that are available in the AutoCAD world.

It is potentially great (or fatal) for teachers also --''my classes are more expensive that that other guy's, but 80%my students pass for such level after five lessons" etc. Many of the introductory courses around, sometimes given by distributors, are a huge waste of time and money.

If Graphisoft does not get it right the results will be misleading, the concept debased and the whole effort worthless.

Ouch - not the feeling the love...

Seriously, question 49 almost cost me a point:

Question 49 of 50:

You have 3 stories defined. Story 0 at elevation 0, Story 1 at elevation 3000 and Story 2 at elevation 6000 mm. Before you go to the 3D Window, the Floor Plan displays Story 2. In 3D you draw a Wall 3000 mm high, the bottom of which will be at the height....

before it seemed to just run out of room! It seemed easy enough to guess the right answer, assuming it was ~more~ right than the others, but the funny thing is none of this really surprises me.....

Cheers,
Link.

just to add to link's observations:

"The purpose of creating Sun Studies is...

• to see what kind of shadows building elements cast
• to have a good idea of how much sun illumination different portions/rooms/areas of the building receive
• ... "

can't it actually be both of these? there could always be more than one purpose . . .

and:

"When another Teammate copied an element into your working area and released it for other teammates, you...

• may take it over using the Receive Changes command
• may take it over using the Send & Receive Changes command
• ... "

it's been a wee while since i used teamwork, but i thought you could take over elements on a 'receive changes' command (am i wrong?) which means that you can also take them over on a 'send & receive changes' too . . . ?

and finally: please could somebody help me with the attached question? i may be missing something completely obvious, but i can't work it out at all . . .

Apparently using Teamwork to maintain multiple backups is disallowed too. I would have sworn that worked.

I've gotten a Windows-only interface question on almost every attempt. That Windows is really catching on... pretty soon we'll all have to know it.

I don't see what Ben's question means, nor do I see how any of the answers can be right.

They need to invest in some true/false and All/None of the above questions. Too many "which statement is not false about what the wrong tool can't do" type questions.

Several of my users are sad because, although they are all productive and competent, they can't break 60% since they're not cad managers. I second the call for levels or areas of certification. Personally I like hunting down the stuff I don't know.

I would like to see certification worked out. It would jump right off the resume from my point of view.

this is a good one. That's a trap for you Ben and your nerdy attempts to hit 100% mark . Beautifully puzzling - they have forgotten to mention the elevation of wall, I think.
