Using Facebook as a way to get information out to people is all good but I would question the need for Facebook discussions given these well-established forums with what i think is a very mature, knowledgable community ... isn't it a bit redundant? Check the discussions to date, they are all pretty basic stuff that would have been answered with a search here. Facebook discussions are also not searchable (for now). I'm sure most of us could do without another 'forum' to keep an eye on ..

but what do i know .. maybe i just don't get Facebook. Maybe just a sticky (if you can do that on Facebook) saying 'Got a question? Take a look at ACTalk'

I find Facebook great for keeping up with and making arrangements with friends, but I have no need of yet another place to discuss ArchiCAD.

There's something about the FB interface that enhances the experience of 'community'. I agree with Matthew that we don't need another outlet for the ArchiCAD talk.

But is the current 'forum' environment starting to show its age?

Being able to simply "Like" something is a form of communication that even the most reclusive lurker might be able to engage in.

Is there something out there that this forum might consider migrating to in future?

I think those are great points, Aaron. I do like forums where valuable posts can be 'liked' and get stars next to them, or a post can be marked as the 'solution' to the thread, etc - saves a lot of reading by someone coming to the thread later.

Important posts can easily get buried here. For example, VP of Development Laszlo Vertesi's post today concerning Mac support will eventually get lost as that thread continues.

Auto-tagging of keywords / etc to create clouds in addition to threads would be nice.... Embedded YouTube (etc) videos like FaceBook ...

A new forum structure with all these features would be a really good idea and could actually be yet another 'ArchiCAD Feature' - 'social' help, which could even be tied into the ArchiCAD Help menu somehow. There is already a wealth of information here so portability of that to any new system is obviously #1 concern, but i think that very amount of information is also one of the problems of the current forums. There is sometimes just so much to look through and many duplicate threads/wishes etc that it can be quite time consuming.

A better wishlist system should also form part of any new forum system. The ability to track wishes, mark as completed, sort by importance, etc is a must.
