Can please someone from GS explain the big difference in prices bettween US and Europe?

The price in Europe is almost double.

This also holds for upgrades.

Can please someone give a responsible answer?

I am new guy for this topic. I started at AC4.5.5 and still use 6.5 in Hong Kong . So what I know is same as Vitruvius. Anyway, there is new distrbutor and new management team from Graphisoft in Asia. I look forward to their new product launch in HK. Vitruvius if you are in HK, you should go and talk to them. Give you the detail

CS,

I just spoke with the new HK distributor and they're offering V8 to V9 upgrades at HK $4000 (US $512) which is cheaper than the old distributor by about 40% and very much in line with international pricing. And it looks like they'll be handling HK and China.

Very good news indeed!

Now all we have to do is push GS to sort out those ridiculous prices in Europe.

Cheers, Cameron

GST!?!

In Hong Kong there's no GST or Sales Tax so there's not much ArchiAccounting.

I only deduct the big expenses like rent, services, consultants and ignore the smaller costs because its cheaper to pay more tax than to hire another accountant to track all those meddlesome small expenses. I'm paying an additional 2% of my gross in tax (I know because I tracked all that stuff my first year) - while the extra accountant would run +5%. Plus another desk. Plus more office space. Plus more files. Plus more time filling out expense reports.

Just curious, is there a big cost benefit in tracking GST inputs/outputs in Australia and Canada? It all sounds very complex for a small business.

Not that I would know, living in Belgium, but to pay or not to pay taxes and to make their balances for income & outcome is not a choice, it's in our law. In Belgium it's 21%. That's quite heavy.

Canada's GST is complex, but for the small practitioner - under $300,000 - an option exists to pay 4/7 of the gross tax collected - a great bargain for service givers rather than resellers.... if few expenses, then coin in the pocket....

Since so much of my work is outside of Canada and not subject to this tax, I opt for the detailed method, where I get a check from the government every quarter of the GST I actually outlay...

So it is some work, but keeps things fair.

And as far as keeping track - that's what accounting progams are for!!

If you have to enter the data once, the system can spit out the return form in no time. Just like ArchiCAD makes a building over lunch hour.

And that is the intention - that the end consumer of the service pays the tax, not incremental bits like we all used to have.

Makes export products - like what I do - cheaper and less complex.

I do most of my work outside of Canada..... therefore "export" according to regulation.

There's a lot of bananas piling up in my back yard.

The price for upgrading to AC9 here in France is 990 € ($ 1,280) without taxes. With taxes (19.6%) it is 1,184 € ($ 1,530).
Compare the first price ($ 1,280) with the $ 495 for the US upgrade, and you understand why i will not upgrade to AC9.

IMHO, low costs and rich versions for US, and the rest of the world can pay, specially Europe.
Life is cool for my reseller, not for me. For a more astronomic price, he offers to me to pre-pay AC10 upgrade, including AC9,
with a "full" support during two years. You don't dream. Thanks, that's not what i am asking for. For sure he confuses me with his banquer.

I want to exchange my native version for an international one, i don't need tech support, but upgrades at the lowest cost (US) in a legal way.
Just a CD or a downloadable version in this case, and the ability to exchange my key in case if it is defective.

After asking in vain my reseller on this point, i got the answer from foreign resellers : no way actually.
Sorry to be crude, i like AC, but not at any price.

Olivier,

It's unbelievable that you have to pay 1280 Euros (which is actually about $1600 US) for an upgrade. If I were in your shoes I'd ignore my reseller, get on a plane to New York, and buy the software upgrade there. It would be cheaper and a much more enjoyable way to part with a large chunk of cash.

Graphisofts pricing policy is stupid, short sighted and simply bad business. They price gouge their loyal users and price prospective users out of their product.

Graphisoft is notable in its absence from this discussion - from which I can only construe that their pricing policy is in fact indefensible as they're not even trying to rationalize it to us.

GRAPHISOFT - STOP PRICE GOUGING YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS.

One price for all.
