Assigning elements to be "demolished"

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled onto something that allowed me to change a portion of a wall to display as demolished (I think I may have just used the "split" tool). Now that I need to change modeled elements to be demolished on a real project, I can't find anything in tools or Help that explains this.

It just occurs to me that I may have been using AC-8 when I did the "demolish" thing, and now I'm using AC-9.

What does anyone know about this?

We've always left them in 3d with different intersection priorities, but this exploding sounds great, if it really is feasible in case of demo extent changes (though we haven't really had that many cases such as the one above).

If the owner wants to revert some of the wall, it isn't too difficult to redraw, stretch or extend the wall back. Of course there are always some things to change but in my view, this is the path of least resistance.

I work as you do, and generally leave the elements as 3D (no exploding), and the intersection priorities are part of my template. There are some exceptions: to remove an existing window from an existing wall I will:
1. Set the window symbol line type to dashed
2. Explode the window
3. Delete the remaining 3D wallhole
4. In plan, cover the opening with a fill that represents new construction and bring to front
5. Select the lines of the exploded window (they are already grouped) and change them to my "Demolition" layer.

One advantage of not exploding walls is they will continue to cleanup (either as existing to remain or demo) as more walls are changed from one to the other as the project progresses. Once exploded, the automatic clean up is lost.

In any case, I always keep a pln file of the existing building so I can copy & paste between two running ArchiCADs if any elements need to be restored.
