You shouldn't need to select the walls again.
Just select the group (with grouping enabled) and then suspend the groups.
The elements will remain selected and can now be offset with the pet palette option.
Your other option is to use the offset tool and magic wand the group - no need to suspend then.

The suspend group is indeed working without the need to re-select. Thanks!
