Find the Cutplane command.

Position it at the required height.

Activate 3D Cutaway.

Go to the 3D window, look down on the plan (the icon that looks like the roof plan)

Save the view; it will keep the cutting planes too!

Shade and render to taste ... place in PlotMaker ... done.

He may be thinking of the trick where you save the floor plan as an image file of some type and apply it as the texture map to a slab so you can role it around it 3D. I do something like that with Art*Lantis when I want to look down into model from a perspective and see the floor plan there with all the dimensions, annotation, doors, windows, other pictures, etc...too. This is very easy in Art*Lantis because you can stretch the map of the floor plan in real time and make it fit the model it is setting on.

Sometimes I cut the walls off at about 2" high and show them on a slab which has the floor plan as a map on it. It helps the walls stand out on a 2D floor plans being shown in 3D.

this is a very bad example...just to give you the idea.

saved as a DXF,
then opened as a GDL Object,
saved into the ArchiCAD Library,
then placed in the floor plan view as an object.

The resultant lines will be visible in a 3D view and renderings.

This method absolutely maintains the size of the underlying elements.

I have been exploring the possibilities of showing the floorplan in a 3D view cut-section, and did it the way as u described:

The resultant lines will be visible in a 3D view and renderings.

I was able to insert the floorplan which I converted into an ArchiCAD Library object (.gsm) and re-insert it, where it is visible in the 3D view. The floorplan consists of lines, hatches and text. However, some problems surfaced: -

1) While the plan looks perfectly fine on the PLAN VIEW, the text is not visible in the 3D VIEW.

2) I tried rendering an image, but the plan does not appear.

Any ideas on where I could have gone wrong during the process? Thanks!

Yes it is. Should it not be?

You can show vectors in 3D with my approach but vectors don't show in rendering. You will make a large bitmap from the vector image to skin the floor with.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess that is the only way to show the 2D plan in rendered views.

However, my problem with the text missing in 3D view remains. Is there any way I can send u the .gsm object I created for you to look at it? I have a hunch its due to my graphics card. 😕

Oh dopey me. In the old days we could explode text into line segments and fills but I forgot how.

I think it was via Illustrator......
