Creating 3D Slab Objects (v7.0)

Anonymous
Not applicable
I would appreciate detailed advice (I'm a moron) on how to create 3D rebated and non-rebated edge beams, and internal rib beams, for concrete slabs. Preferably these objects would be saved so they are available to all current projects, and able to be modified as required for each job. I am not being lazy here, the manuals I have do not seem to adequately explain how to achieve this. Your advice, in the simplest possible language, including how and where to save the objects, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mike

Complex Profiles should do what you need. In the ArchiCAD Help go to Virtual Building > Construction Elements > Place a Wall/Column/Beam with a Complex Profile.

If you put these profiles in your template, you will have them for all projects.

You can use them as beams. Around your slab though you may want to try using Solid Element Operations (even with a beam that has a complex profile) and subtracting it from the slab edge. Your beam will need a different layer intersection group number than the slab is all.

Play around with them and you'll see it's all quite doable.

Did we have any of these features in Version 7?

That far back, I think we only had the Profile tool, creating an object from a fill shape.

Is this right?

Yup. In version 7, the Profiler "Goodie" was the only way to do what is described visually (e.g., without coding GDL). As I recall, there is/was an html or text help document in the Add Ons folder describing how to use it... basically, create a cross section with the fill tool, select that, then the Profiler, and draw a path for the extrusion as I recall.

Attaching a PDF of the help file...

Ah, 7, yes. Profiler it is. Although I reckon saving all those parts would be worth upgrading!
