So, my goal is creating this two domes in AC16:
http://www.salentu.com/volta-a-spigolo.asp
http://www.salentu.com/volta-a-squadro.asp
I'm starting from the "volta a spigolo" since it looks like being the easiest to model but, hey... I'm not managing to create even this 😕
My main problem, I guess, is that I don't know how to create a complex ellipsoid using a mesh. I need it for the upper part of the dome and I'll also have to define its shape in plant. But I have a rectangle based dome, not a square, so it's not easy at all...
Do you have any idead on how would you model something like that in AC16?

Wouldnt it be much easier with the parts made with shells?
I simply make the line-2D construction first in the floorplan and put in several sections along the axes.
Then i go in the emty sections and draw 3DMorh - lines as construction-lines, which i can grab in 3d for the building of the schells.
In German an another geometry - but You can take the way - Your purpose is similar to this, i think.:

To download: ArchiCad 16 Mini Tut - VOLTA A SPIGOLO with schell and morph:

Well, the pln file you attached makes my AC16 Mac crash, so I cannot open it 😕
As for the movies on youtube, I'm watching the first one now, the second one is still being processed by youtube! Can you make something to the pln file you attached so that it works please?

Thanks a lot again!
P.S.: I don't use morph 'cause I'm not able of doing it, I cannot work with that tool yet, I need to complete a work right now... after that I'll surely try and learn how to use the morph tool... after all it's important for me to be able to draw advanced space ships in AC
And I'm not joking at all.

I hopt the problems aren't form the maybe used öäü's caracters in german Kayboard layout?
But dont take my file - try to follow the steps in my vid, and You learn it by yourself.
Lets try it as *PLA:
Maybe its just a problem with the long filename, so the filename of this pla is shorter.
Ok - now i see the Youtube vid is still in progress - probably some problem with the uploading at my homecomputer - i am at work now, but aftter 10 pm ill try it again.. Sorry

Make a dome using a complex profile circle wall derived from the groin geometry of the opening arches. [make that geometry merely as a reference since it is not used in the final model]
Add the opening arches using a pair of complex profile walls that each describe ½ the arch [Archicad joins faces if nodes touch in plan]
Trim out the under arch part of the dome with a complex profile semi-arch wall.
No SEO - all auto trim.

Hmooslechner wrote:Thank u very much for the vid, I can learn a lot of things from that, though the result is not a star vault (volta a stella / spigolo), since the central part is looking much more like a dome with a square base and there's no thin gap between the 2 surfaces... see this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfgibzbdxVE&feature=youtu.be
Now the right vid.
I'll try experimenting with what u though me though! Particularly interesting are the operations between morphs. The problem is that this sort of dome with a rectangular base is what I obtained while trying my experiments too... I'm not being able to obtain a star shape.
Similar mistake in the dome's in the model by Dwight. I'll try my best and post how I did mine, if it'll work! xD
Thank u both for the support and the suggestions.
