Deselecting when Stretching

I have been using AutoCAD for 10 years. I am with a new firm that uses ArchiCAD and I'm finding alot of things not present that AutoCAD did that would be great in ArchiCAD, and if they exist, I can't find them.

Basically, when you are going to "Stretch" objects and have est. your Marque box, can you and how do you "Remove" or "deselect" items within the box that you DO NOT wish to stretch?

So far all my office mates can tell me is to either "lock" them or "move" them out of the way. What a pain.

Please help.

Or use a polygon marquee and jog around the items that you do not want to stretch.

Lock the appropriate layers that do not need stretching.
