Door opening in curved wall.

I have two questions regarding a tower model I am designing. It's made of 8" wall with radius 6'-8".

a) I inserted a 8 ' wide door opening (D Arch Opening 11) found in the Openings 11 folder. Although it shows as an opening on the plan but it shows as narrow slit openings at either jamb ends with a major part of the tower wall still in place in the middle in 3D view. Is there a way to solve this problem?

b) In plan view when I select the tower it shows as a two semi-circles grouped together. In 3D view I see a joint line along where the two semi-circles meet. In plan I tried ungrouping and eliminating one half of the circle and stretching the other to recreate the circle without any success. Appreciate your response.

Not sure about the first part of your question but for the second, look at this thread.

This thread might help regarding inserting windows into towers.

Regarding the two semi-circular walls, you could try stretching one wall to an angle of 359.9 degrees and then rotate the tower so the join is at a position where it can't be seen and doesn't intersect any windows perhaps? You will have to patch it on plan though as a line will show.

I wish to thank both of you for responding to my questions. I hope the attached jpg file helps explain it better regarding the door opening and the joint line. It never ceases to amaze me we have still have issues like joint line for what's supposed to be a cylinder and door opening in curved walls. Oh well!

Hi Dave,

It looks like you have inserted the opening over the joint line between the two semicircles.

Rotate or adjust the wall so the joint is to one side and it should clean up better. If you are still having problems, post up an image of the floor plan with the wall highlighted so we can see the joints, and we will try to help further.

Thanks Peter. The tower consists of one full circle and the other an arc. The reason behind this is obvious when looking at the 3D view attached to the prior message.

The currently floor plan shows the 1st floor view with just the arc portion of the tower in which the opening is inserted. The full circle portion of the tower
is shown on the 2nd level, not seen on this attached plan. The vertical joint you see on the top half of the tower is made by the full circle at the 2nd level.

My goal is to show an arched opening at the 1st level of the tower. I hope this explanation helps.

I tried to re-create what you did, but it works fine for me. Are you sure it's not a rogue bit of wall in the same plane as the wall with the opening?

Can you select it in the 3D window perhaps? Have you tried deleting the wall and opening and drawing it again?

Not sure what else to suggest!

Peter I have tried all of the proposed suggestions before. As one last attempt I took a more careful look at the Door Default Settings dialog window.

I have attached the partial view of this window in PNG format. Hope you are able to view it.

I noticed under the Model tab the radio buttons for 1) 'Same as Wall Side' and 2) 'Curved Line' had to be selected for the proper arched opening to show up in 3D. The radio button for the 2) 'Curved Line' is grayed out if the 'Same as Wall Edge' is selected instead, which is what the initial default setting was.

The arched now show up in the 3D view!

Now all I have to contend with is the joint line which I will resolve as you had suggested.

Thanks.
