Elevation Data from Google Earth

I've seen some videos using Sketchup for extracting elevation data along with textures from Google Earth and bringing it into ArchiCAD. Now that process seems to not be available anymore?

What is the process now for getting elevation data and textures?

I have recently worked out that you can still save a kmz file and load that into Google Earth. You need to fiddle with the altitude and precise location quite a bit because Google Earth and Ordinance Survey Digital Mapping don't seem to completely overlay. But once you have the location nailed in GE, you can update your model at will and it will reload via the kmx file.
