FREE plug-in: Toggle lineweights and more with one key!

A number of people have asked for a way to quickly toggle line weights between true weight and hairline, to toggle roof pivot lines or section depths on or off, and more.

I'm releasing a FREE add-on for 9.0 that let's you assign a shortcut key to some of the most commonly adjusted display options. With the add-on loaded, for example, I map the "H" key (H=hairline) so that pressing it once switches to hairline display, and pressing again switches back to true weight. It seems trivial, but it really speeds work.

works perfectly , only tried line weights but it saves
soooo much time

Thank you karl !!!!!!
You can download the Windows version of this QuickDisplay add-on for ArchiCAD 9.0 from:
http://www.archispectives.com/tools

A Mac version will hopefully be available by mid-December.

Enjoy.

Karl

PS I'm posting this to "Working in ArchiCAD" rather than "Ads" since this is a free thing to speed up working in ArchiCAD. Consider it more of a tip/trick. 😉

Karl, I'm lagging behind. Not just in posting to this forum. It took me three months to discover this gem of yours, just because I'm too lazy to read each day. I'm ashamed of myself. As you wrote, Toggle Lineweights is the one command I use every day and I swear I've sworn several thousand times over having to dig for it every time, way back since I got Archicad some thirteen years ago. Now you solved it for me. I just can't thank you enough!

And I hope Graphisoft see this as proof of how beneficial it is to spread development tools as wide as possible!

Karl,

I think your next programming venture should be a toggle so we can switch between crossing and window mode in the arrow tool without clicking the Selection Methods button.

Karl,
I'm writing here because it seems like it could be a part of a larger problem. I constantly lose my QuickDisplay pallette on restarts of the program. QuickDisplay is available in the Toolbar Display window and can be selected and deselected, but the Toolbar never shows up. If I go into the work environment and delete the Tool Bar and create a new on it works fine for that session, and sometimes more sessions but in the end it always disappears. Any ideas?

Something amiss with your work environment, Brad. Reading my installation instructions at:
http://www.archispective.com/tools/

I see that I did leave out an essential step. After you've defined your toolbar (or anything else for that matter), you must redefine the associated scheme for ArchiCAD to remember it.

In this case, after definition, click on "Command Layout Schemes" and you'll see a scheme called "custom". Click on your named scheme (part of your work profile) and then click the Redefine button to include these changes in that names scheme and hence your stored profile.

Anything that is 'custom' (shortcut schemes, etc. ... applies everywhere) will be lost if there is a new/reset or if you otherwise change work profiles.

Hope this helps,
Karl

Thanks Karl,
I have redefined the scheme but that doesn't seem to help. The QuickDisplay stays in the menu and in the work environment. Its just that the Tool Bar won't show up on the screen. Like I said, I'm not sure that this is only an issue with your Tool Bar. However, it is the only one I use.javascript:emoticon('')

One thing I have just realized as I experiment is it seems like it happens after I have two copies of ArchiCAD running. Though I have wasted a lot of time trying to get a reproducible condition.

Excellent tool, thanks Karl. Does make you wonder why it's not a standard feature. Makes things a whole lot quicker.
Cheers

Brad, Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. It is the Palette Schemes that memorize the location and visibility of floating palettes and toolbars. Make sure that with the QD palette where you want it, you've redefined the Palette Scheme to save that info.

Having multiple ArchiCADs running will cause the settings used by the last-closed one to be the startup settings for the next session, at least on XP...unless you specify a work environment in the startup dialog.

HTH,
Karl
