I created some favorites for my column like 230X300 and 230X450 where the first part is the width and the next part is its length and placed the columns on my floor plan. Know my question is suppose if my structural engineer has designed the columns and asked me to change all the 230X450 columns to 230X550 then. Is it possible to update the 230X450 favorite to 230X550 so that all these columns are updated. If it can't be done the will I need to replace all these columns and insert new columns with the new dimensions. I had gone through the help but it seems it is not possible.
Please do Provide your valuable information.
Thanks for the support in advance.
regards,
Srinivas.

Hi Srinivas,
It can be done, but not the way you have asked. The Favorites pallet only stores your settings, but once you place an object into your plan, it's no longer associated with any changes to your Favorites. To be able to change all of your columns in the way that I think you want, they would have to be hotlinked modules, or custom library parts.
The easiest way you can change all of your columns would be to use Find & Select (Edit -> Find & Select... ) to select all your columns, and then just change their sizes as you normally would - just be aware that if your columns' anchor point isn't in the centre, then the columns will move around in floor plan.
Hope that helps a bit.
Cheers,
Tom

If you have multiple stories use the find and select in the 3D window and all of your columns can be changed in a single go. If you have not played with "find and select" yet it is very powerful and can almost always narrow the selection criteria to only select what you want. If you select one of the columns you want to change you can transfer the parameter of that column into the find and select settings...

And...
For anyone new to Find & Select, you can eyedropper (option/alt click) the settings of any element into the selection criteria. This is how I use it about 99% of the time.

It is worth pointing out that once selected, all instances of your column can be switched out to any other column favorite, simply by double-clicking the appropraite favorite, in the Favorites palette.
This is a very powerful function of Favorites that many users are unaware of. Used with the 'Selections' palette, it can be a very efficient way to switch things out the way you want to.
Best regards Srivinas.

Use the Wiki, too - LOTS of info there!
But, as always - in order to ask the right question, you should know half the answer
