Floor plan cut planes instead of intermediate stories

Many times it is necessary to model things that are necessary for sections and elevations that are unnecessary on the floor plan. In the past I have used a method involving intermediate stories. Now that ArchiCAD 10 allows the user to change the floor plan cut plane, are others finding this a better solution?

Why not use layers?

Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. The problem with using layers as opposed to stories or cutplanes is visibility of overlapping walls on the same floor.

For example, I would like to model walls that are constructed between the ceiling and the slab. I do not want to see these walls on the plan at the same time with walls that are below.

The use of intermediate floors was a trick introduced several versions back, but does the ability to control the floor plan cut plane supersede as a better method?

Not to belabor the point too much, but isn't that what layers are used for? To see things on one layer while turning off another?

Tom has of course come up with the best solution IMHO. Use layers with layer combinations and even views. If you give these walls a different layer intersection priority number than the others, it will solve any healing problems even when those walls are hidden.

it kinda does, but it's not 100%. and really - for what you're describing, the use of layers really would be a far better solution than intermediate floors anyway!
