HVAC / Ducting

I was looking through the Graphisoft website earlier today, and i downloaded the tutorials for the Graphisoft constructor, and i never realised how similar to ArchiCAD it is. Anyway, while going through the tutorial I saw that Constructor has a very nice, and easy to use tool specifically made for duct work. Is there anything similar to this available for archicad?

cheers,
dan

EDIT: I just found it on the Graphisoft website here But, theres not really a whole lot of information on how to obtain it...

Not easy to find…
HVAC for ArchiCAD alias Ductwork

Make a search in this forum with hvac+archicad and you find this http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7474 and this http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=5125&

It exists, some users too, I don't know really more about it…

thanks for the links fmr.... since you're the google of GDL though, heres a question for you, do you know of any objects for duct work? rather than getting the entire add-on (which probably costs more than I want to pay) I could probably make do with just a few GDL objects, I only need them because they're going to be exposed in a new design for a commercial building, and I want to see how they will look...

Hello Daniel

Nothing really interesting at my knowing in the free net object —it is easier to find a free 3D Car or a Sofa…— some ceiling air diffuser at object online, some others in other sites.
If you a search in Google with "HVAC+object+ArchiCAD" you may find sone english distributor for Ductwork or Cymap.

HVAC is not really the thing that you want to show to realize a "beautiful image" , then not a lot of 3D objects for that…

Dommage…

PS: Take a look, nevertheless, to the Olivier Dentan's Library here, it contains some objects for networks HVAC in terrace…

Why aren't there at least some rudimentary ductwork objects built right into AC? It's not as if there are only a few of us needing to deal with them. It seems like a pretty fundamental element that's just simply missing.

I agree Wendy, I'm not looking for anything spectacular, more so just some simple objects to make sure designs are accommodating for space, and also for appearance aspects when ductwork is visible. I think I shall make a wish for this.

Wendy,
I haven't really ever found a need to model my ductwork but I can see how/why someone might want to. If you choose to make a wish for this, try to provide as much specification info as possible. I imagine if Graphisoft creates something it will be fairly basic...they'll just need some local/US standard info to go by.

Just "thinkin' out loud"...maybe CadImage's 3d profiler would be a good tool to allow you to route basic ductwork through the model....

I have a feeling a wish isn't going to do much though, seeing as how graphisoft already makes a good ductwork add-on, and part of constructor. I have a feeling they'd just say, why make it part of AC when we can continue selling it...

Really? What do you do when you're trying to model an existing space that has exposed ductwork you're going to leave in place, or you want to design some in? I can't imagine leaving the placement to the engineer, at least not entirely.

In a perfect world, I would personally probably never work with exposed ductwork, but I'm pretty stuck with it for some things. I have a hard time imagining that *most* designers and architects wouldn't also have *some* need to model it, at least anyone who ever deals with any sort of commercial project.

That's a thought. I'm still trying to figure out if I can make the old Profiler work or not. It's showing up in my menus, but I'm getting an error message when I try to create a profile out of a circle, which is what I think I'd need for this application, and it won't create the object. It's saving *something* to my disk, but I don't know what because nothing is showing up in my model, with an error message that says:

"Add-on Internal Error
Details:Unable to create an element Type of the
Element: Object"
