Help needed for a Specialist Roof Design !!!

I hope someone can help?

We're having difficulty trying to create a shape within ArchiCAD v9. I need to create a roof that in plan looks square and has a certain thickness, but has four different z values at each corner.

The attached image is an example of what is required.

sounds that you just need "mesh tool" and then
transform your mesh to roof with the add-on
"mesh to roof"...

It's a sinle plane, so I'm sure it CAN be made with the roof, I'm just not sure exactly how.

The pivot line would be going across the base at an angle, since it's always perpendicular to the plane descending.

If you know the heights of the walls it is connecting to, you could use the Pet Palette to pull the roof up to them in the 3D window....

I'm waiting for Link on this one. I'm sure he'll have something in his bag of tricks.

Really, what you're saying is that you don't know what the slope and gradient direction of your desired roof is, which is more of a geometry problem than a CAD problem.

Still, it seems there should be a tool to derive this for you with the info you DO know. I agree with Jean-Luc that the mesh-to-roof is maybe the easiest. I would make the 2 planametricaly square roofs (it is critical that they be zero thickness) with the slopes you know -the 15 and the 30 degrees. the make a planametricaly square mesh (again, zero thickness) and in 3D elevate the 3 nodes so they align with the three points you need. Then just use roof-to-mesh (which is a goodie and must be loaded --see under the Help menu "AC10 Goodies") Good luck.

The easiest way I can see is two build two temporary roofs - one at 15 degrees, one at 30.

Then go to the 3D window and use the polygonal geometry method for the roof tool (making sure you have vertical roof edges, not perpendicular). Then click in the order shown in the attached image, noting the first three are to the underside of the existing two roofs, the rest are to the top. Follow the prompts in your status bar to better understand what's going on.

When the roof is complete, you can delete the two temporary roofs. There's probably a way to do it without them, but it's about my bedtime...

So Link...........!! You essentially created a 3 sided pivot line? No idea at all that could be done! Took me several attempts and re-reads of your post to pull it off here, but perserverence/stubborness prevailed. Impressive!

When I wasn't getting it I was trying the roof to mesh, trimmed the perp pivot line walls with the two roofs, one @ 15 + one @ 30, placed and lowered the corners of the mesh, thinking I would just mesh to roof it, expecting something magical, having never used the tool before, the yield was pretty pathetic with a "ridge" created in between the two, running the wrong way no less. And now we know!

Straight to tips I presume with this one!
