How to use Trace & Reference in Archicad

Are you still placing your reference image directly on the ground floor and struggling to navigate your project?
 
If you're tired of jumping between views and losing your place, Trace & Reference is the smarter, more efficient way to work in Archicad.

What is Trace & Reference?

 

Trace & Reference lets you overlay another view (such as a floor plan, section, or elevation) onto your current workspace, helping you compare and align drawings more easily without switching back and forth. All the necessary settings are available from the Trace and Reference Palette which is accessible from the Window> Palettes menu.

How does it work?

 

Choose your reference view

 

  • Open a view, a viewpoint, a layout (or basically any Navigator item) this will be the "Active" content

  • You can select a "Reference" from the Navigator or using the Palette

  • Reference can be any item in the Project Map, View Map and Layout Book

 

Changing position

 

  • Toggle between your current drawing and the reference using the Trace button

  • Changing the relative position of the reference

    • Drag Reference
    • Rotate Reference
    • Reset to Default Position
  • Temporarily displace Reference

 

Customize visibility

 

  • Use the Splitter tool to show or hide portions of the reference.
  • Toggle visibility of specific element types.

  • Make fills and zones transparent to focus on key components.
  • Set the color and the intensity for both the active content and for reference.
