Hey Vincent,

Try this previously discussed topic
http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=2856

You will still have to recreate your preferances for 8.1, but only once! [save a copy of them somewhere just in case]

Also if it's the rotate/mirror/drag a copy of you're looking for go to
options>preferences>miscellaneous and select "show element copy transformations in contextual menu" and you'll be working like you used to. Don't quite understand why the powers that be let that one go.........

Thanks a lot for this quick reply Jefferson!

I believe your advise is working within the 8-cycle;
When I want to take my prefs with me from 8.1 R1 and install not an update but the full new version of 8.1 R2 I can just copy the old prefs in the new folder; works fine.

When I de-install AC7 I find the prefs in the root of the ArchiCAD folder, with 7.0 in the name instead of 8.1.
When I rename them to 8.1 and put them into the prefs-location you mentioned and overwrite them nothing happens.

New question that came up:
I believe the personal shaped Tool Bar isn't saved in the prf's but somewhere else...

You are on a PC? [not in your signature]

Now I am NO computer science whiz, but I believe that the two versions are basically separate and different "animals", so overwriting from one version to another is not an option. So as I said before you will have to go through the task of setting up your preferences in ver 8.1, either rebuild/update, from scratch. Then you will have them available to you. There are a couple of other pref files kept in the same folder, Plotmaker prefs etc. and I just drag a copy of ALL of them when needed and on my next start up I'm "good to go".
