ID Manager

In the old days, the ID's would be assigned in the order that the objects were selected. There were predictable ways to renumber things. Select right to left, top to bottom etc...
I don't know that there was ever any intention by the programmers to make this possible, it was just something you could do by figuring out what method of selection would give you what kind of result.

Has anyone been taken the time yet with AC14 to figure out if there is some way to control the way an ID is assigned to things?

I have fooled around with it some but I am not able to decipher any predictable patterns yet.

If you select the elements in the order you want them numbered it works.

I guess it works the same as always.

Initially placed things have all the same ID.

If you select all the items and change the ID's, the new ID's will be based on the placement order.

The ID's can be changed to match any selection order.

Then... if you select all of the items and change the ID's they will always revert to the placement order.

So there are two kinds of ID order. Placement order and Selection order.
