Congratulations!
Thanks. It really is nice. I've now got a full day's work in emulation (Rosetta) and the performance still seems better than my old PowerBook (to my surprise) and so far no crashes. (I'd cross my fingers but it's too hard to type that way - guess I'll have to knock on wood.)
I'll be installing XP anyway
Boot Camp or Parallels? I found this picture of running Windows in Parallels along with something called Virtue Desktop - one click to switch - looks cool!
I'm going with Boot Camp to start since it seems to be the most reliable according to what I've read. I'd like to go the Parallels/virtualization route but it sounds like it's not ready for real work yet. I'll be keeping my eyes open though. Rebooting to switch isn't much fun.

One more question - have you tried Artlantis R on it? Seems to be negative reports on that on Abvent's forums.

I am interested in how it will work in XP emulation. One of my clients has installed Parallels and apparently USB support is lacking (maybe that has changed in the last week). I had to buy a PC laptop but am looking forward to the day when I can swap it out for one of the 17" Intel MAC's. It looks like that day might not be far off.

So I'm thinking of upgrading to AC10 soon. Does anyone know if I buy it now, then decide to get a Macintel in six months, and GS comes out with a version that's native on a Macintel... would you think they'd charge for the "upgrade" to that version? I'd hate to have to spend even more money at that point.

Thanks for any news, info, tips or guesses.

I can't imagine that GS would charge extra for this. The installation CDs usually comes with both OS installations and I would think this will be considered a native OS on all new MACs. I am on a PC but have been thinking of maybe getting a Mac 17" notebook for my next upgrade. I am waiting to see further developments of Boot Camp and any other solutions for running both OSes as I have some Windoz stuff I need to keep.

This is just my best guess though as I don't have an inside track. I'm going by past history.

I just talked to my AC retailer and he verified what you said, Gerald. No charge for any upgrades with the same version number (e.g. AC10). Even for all of GS's efforts to develop a Macintel version. Which he said is due out "this summer".

Cool.

Does that mean that AC10 is currently NOT mactel native???

Rarely anything of that level of complexity is. Adobe is still some months away, for example.

AFAIK the native version will be free ... you buy an Archicad license, not platform specific license.

The current shipping version is not mactel native. But rest assured that Graphisoft is working hard on it.
P.S. Your signature says G4, so that wouldn't really help you along...
Many current Mac users would be really angry if GS would only release a mactel version, wouldn't they? I think the "universal binaries" will have to be provided for a long time. I know my G4 will have to keep working for at least two more years before I even consider upgrading.

Ah, the g4. May it rest in peace. I'm now Mactel as of today.
