Interior automatic dimensioning-how to use this tool?

I can't understand interior automatic dimensioning. In fact it's absolutely useless for me. How can I dimension a wall with windows and doors and perpendicular walls from inside?! I can't figure out how to do it with auto int. dim. It seem that auto dim works on intersected elements, but how to dimension walls through their length!? Imagine a multy-storey resident building .. how to dim the floor plans using auto dim efectively!? I need to dim everything for my technical plan... Sorry for my bad english

You may want to try the Automatic Exterior Dimensioning then.
The Automatic Interior Dimensioning works by drawing a line and it will dimension those structures that your line intersects.
The Automatic Exterior Dimensioning provides you with dimensioning a Wall or many selected Walls along their lengths, with various options:
