Wanted to know how everyone creates Key Plan on a floor plan for large buildings; which shows what part of building the current sheet is referring to?
Thanks,

Hi,
Is it that one can not accomplish a "Key Plan" on AC 8.1, no one uses Key Plans on large projects or I was not clear in explanation of what I mean by Key Plan? I see people have viewed the question.
Thanks,
Joseph Harouni

There are a variety of ways to do key plans. I have usually done it by drawing simplified plans (usually with fills) on a key plan layer. Set the display options to show the section markers as key plan type.
For highlighting the appropriate areas of the building you can create additional layers, but this complicates things a bit more than I like. I prefer to use PlotMaker to adjust the output pen settings and and assign different fill pens to the different building areas. This way the current area can be solid black (or color if you want to get fancy) and all the others as grey or white.
You could also do this with zones. Though I haven't tried it yet, it should work well and might have some additional value.

I thought may be by saving the plan as an object and re-scaling it to a smaller size and insert it back to floor plan, but if the plan changes I have to redo the same process over again. Any ideas?

Joseph wrote:No, I use the magic wand to draw a fill to the building perimeter. Either space bar click the floor slab or shrink wrap to the perimeter walls. If your key plan is large enough you can leave the exterior (and perhaps interior) walls' layers on for more detail. This does need to be maintained as the building changes, but I have only used key plans in CDs so changes are generally minimal.Matthew wrote:Matthew you say "simplified plans", what do you mean, do you trace with line tool?!
