Layers in layout?

Hello,

Have placed my elevations on a layout and am trying to figure out if I can
turn off my site walls layer and have the change show on the layout.
I tried to see if just turning off my site wall layer in the plan view would transfer the change to the linked elevations on the layout and it didn't work.
If I want my elevations to only show the building do I have to do a whole separate layout with with each elevation placed again without the site walls?

Redefine the View of the elevation in the View Map, by changing the Layer Combination and updating it. (If you're not using a saved view with a Layer Combination, you really should).

In the view map select the plan view that was used to create the elevations, turn off the layer called site walls and then
right click the plan view in the view map and go to view settings and get current window settings.
Did it and then went to my elevations layout and updated the views.
No effect!
Seems like there should be a way to make all the placed elevations respond to a layer change?

Saved view with a layer combination?
Save view and place on a layout is all I can find.

The full set of options for creating views is available in the navigator.
Do a search in the AC help file and read up a bit on it.

This screen shot shows the location of some icons that will help you figure it out. Note that the navigator has four modes, one for the project map, a second for the view map (plan icon hi-lighted at the top), and two others. So make sure you are in the correct mode. Note how the options change depending on what mode you are in. Also research and learn about clone folders as they are quite useful.

If you do not see the navigator on screen go to the Window menu and under palettes you will find the navigator. The navigator is so central to a proficient use of AC that you should alter your user preferences to always have it available if it is not already.

That is only going to update the Plan view.

You need to go to the Elevation views, select the Layer Combination you want, then get current window settings. (You can update just by clicking on the view name in View Map, hitting the Settings button in navigator and making the changes, but I prefer to go into the elevation view itself to make sure I have everything right).

Forgive me if you know this, but let's go back a few steps.

In the Navigator the four icons together at the top are Project Map, View Map, Layout Book and Publisher. Each view you place on your layout should be saved to the View Map with specific Layer Combination, Scale, Structure Display, Pen Set, MVO, and Renovation Filter. Set these up in their relevant places so that you don't ever have to use "custom" settings, then it is easier to maintain consistency across your project. You will quite likely need different Layer Combinations for your Plan and Elevation views (as you are experiencing here).

Thanks guys, Navigator is a crazy place to wrap ones head around.
I have some studying to do for sure to understand all the possibilities.
Up until now I have been using navigator, project, view and layouts
at a basic level, but it's time to learn more. Like changing pen sets for changes in scale., and so much more. Going to read up a bit as you suggest. For now I just re-shot and replaced the elevations on the layout with the site walls turned off.
I'm finding 17 to be so fast that it really isn't a problem.
