Linear gradient fills - problem! (solved now)

If i draw a gradient fill directly onto the layout it is fine when pdfed, it 's only when the fill is part of the drawing placed onto the layout. see attached img(screen grab of the pdf file), the two fills at the bottom are drawn directly on the layout whereas the fill above is part of the drawing.
please help, i need to send these drawings out today!

ok, i've discovered something about the linear gradient fill in my particular file that i cannot explain how or why but hopefully someone know something about it.
the gradient fills have two pens one for the colour and one for the background. when i change the pen for the background, in the drawing, the fill does not change. what's happening??? how can i resolve it?

ok, so i feel really silly now.
the problem lay in the model view options. our CAD manager set our office template and had the fills to use the window background colour as opposed to their set background colour.
and ofcourse he's on holiday currently!
