Someone in our office is having a strange problem. In one of the section windows she can drag a copy, but in a different window it will not work. It is as if the option/alt key will not work. Anyone else seen this problem. This is a teamworked file on AC8.1 (1410)

ALL BEWARE!

graphisoft have changed the 'Cmd-D Cmd' to 'Cmd-D Alt' in 8.1 - presumably because it toggled itself on and off too many times whilst panning around: 'Cmd-,'. (ie clicking the Cmd button again to invoke another function turns off the "a-copy" bit of the "drag-a-copy").

this is probably more the case for mac users with a single button mouse - no scroll-zoom or click-pan.

what happens now of course is that placing the user origin on the fly: 'Alt-Shift', (which i tend to do a lot), toggles the "a-copy" off again!

it's not as sensitive as using the 'Cmd' buttom, so it is an improvement, and the order in which you 'Alt'+'Shift' seems to play a part in whether or not the "a-copy" gets turned off.

LOOK OUT!

Do you know how to turn back on the drag a copy feature. This has been lost in several section windows, presumably by relocating the origin.

i don't think that you can simply turn the 'a-copy' bit on and off globally, let alone for specific windows. i was referring to this happening 'on-the-fly'.

it sounds as though something far more sinister is at foot here. what happens when you restart, or 'new and reset'? does that clear it?

A full restart did not clear it . I did not try a "new and reset". The file is a teamworked file with multiple people signed in. The strange thing is I created another window without the drag a copy command by resetting the origin.

None of the above. It only seems to affect certain section windows!

have you tried a different keyboard on the same machine?

by the way, 'new and resetting' won't affect any of the other team mates signed-in - it's just a way of clearing the preferences on that particular machine. once you have 'new and reset', try creating your magic, disappearing '-a-copy' command on a completely new document.

if all is well, open the draft file again . . .

(i still think that there is something wrong with the keyboard. )

the computer that is giving me problems is a apple laptop (G3 powerbook) I attached a external keyboard and the problem still exists. I deleted all of the preference files and the problem is still there... no drag a copy or other edit commands (ie. split, adjust mirror a copy, multiply) in certain windows. Works perfectly in plan. It seems to be a problem with that particular file, however I am told that it has occurred in a different file as well. This has me baffled.
