Modelling with a complex existing building

Anonymous
Not applicable
We have modelled a complex existing victorian building in archicad, the process was very time intensive, having to model complicated polygonal walls with recesses.

Our proposal includes substantial internal alterations and a new extension. The problem is many of the existing walls are retained but doors and windows are removed and added. With openings automatically placed on the same layer as the walls we cannot move existing openings to a demolition layer and add new openings to a proposal layer. We would have to duplicate wall information on both proposed and demolition layers.

Our concern is if any of the existing information has to be altered then we have duplicate information and so a coordination issue, on a file which is being teamworked.

We've also thought about separating the information into 2 separate pln files, one existing model, one proposed. But obviously we have the same coordination issue. The file is quickly becoming confusing to work in! Half-stories and polygonal walls are only adding to the frustration!

We're just unsure about how to best proceed and maintain a good workflow...any suggestions would be really helpful.

Thank you
