I have to confess that this to me seems to be an oversight by graphisoft – most architecture oriented CAD software I know (and importantly AutoCAD -the market dominant software) are built around the obvious idea that architecture is built in the real world - and therefore they use the universally excepted world coordinate system, so as anyone, in any place can coordinate different plans in a project with confidence. (In AutoCAD this is under "global coordinate system manager")
The concept of world coordinates exists (in a way) in Archicad – in the ability to change the sun parameters according to the geographical location (city settings).
It is also evident from andor's letter that graphisoft was conscious of this problem and fixed it in AC 9. – if you know that getting far from 0,0 will cause corruptions in a drawing – you can ether limit the distance an object can be placed from the origin- or you can fix the software – which is what graphisoft did. (Only from AC 9 unfortunately)
It seems that this problem manifests itself in different ways on the globe, and is less of a problem to parts of the AC community – I think that’s the reason why this has not been an issue before - having said this I'm pretty sure quite a few drawings out there are less accurate then the architects that made them think !
I totally sympathize with rip Weaver's concerns but had no intention to buy AC 9 yet – so Im going to try to live with this for now.
