Need to get rid of auto blank fills when cutting elevations?

Yes, and in details too, everything is covered with an "airspace" fill, relating to the fact that the materials have NO fill assigned. First thing I do in a detail is "select all" with fill tool active (remember to suspend groups), deselect the ones I actually want to keep (such as slab fills) and delete. Grrrr.
