Move the start and end points of the roof pivot line to the desired position, NOT the mid point!

Yes, I have experienced this too. Sometimes it works, then next time it doesn't. No settings changed in between. Stretching the end points sounds so logical I never thought of it.

Grid snap is not on.
Moving the end points seems to work, but should not be necessary. You should be able to quickly grab the midpoint and move the pivot line. This has worked in previous versions.
As Stuart mentions, the problem seems to come and go.
