Roof rafters not joining

Zendrix

Hi!

Im creating a wood structure for my roof with roof wizard.

Everything is going ok, except for the fact that the common rafters are not joining the hip rafter on just one side. Its seems like the hip rafter is only showing up half of what it should be in widht.

What can possibly be happening?

Thanks,

Rui

Also, on the same topic:

I am modelling an existing roof where the rafters i show in the picture need to stop against the hip rafter. Is there any 3d operation in order to "slice" my cross-rafters shown in the picture?

I tried to use the "split" tool, but at the end of the operation the rafter stays the same.

Thanks,

thnaks. im having same issues, will try to solve and let know then

Because they are objects and not beams, they will not trim automatically.

You will have to stretch the lengths of those purlins and mitre the ends.

I just tried the roof wizard quickly in version 28 and it worked fine for me.

It seems only one of your hips is affected.

Did it come out this way from the wizard, or did you accidentally change it?

Hi barry.

It came out of the wizard like that. After i could not find a solution i created a hip rafter only for that hip and placed the same values as a workaround, but its weird, it was showing 8cm width, but only showing like 4cm width in plan and 3d.

Regarding the other issue, the beam was created as a trimmer from the "roof extras" menu, so its not a random object, but a specific roof object (trimmer). When you say  "mitre", what do you mean by that? i tried "split", i tried "trim", i tried SOE, but nothing could stop my trimmer at an angle.

Thanks,

They are all just individual objects if you suspend the grouping.

If they are trimmers as part of the wizard, I don't know why they extend outside the roof.

But then I don't know why that hip was show as half thickness either.

No, the trimeers were made individually from the "roof extras" afterwards, not from the "roof wizard", thats why they are bigger, cause i am stretching them in order to then connect them somehow, by trimming, by spliting, whatever method.

The hip rafter that only shows up half of it is the one that came out of the wizard like that.

The trimmers are objects so they can not be trimmed or split.

Just stretched and the end angle mitred if they allow that (I don't think the trimmers do mitre).

The trimmers are also placed between rafters, you must select the 2 rafters to set the length.

If you are looking at supporting the rafters, you will want to look at adding a purlin.
