Round window in Round Tower

Greetings all. I am a new user who is working in a Demo version and trying to make sure that I'm savvy enough to actually use ArchiCAD on a day to day basis. So I expect I may have a few other questions along the way but today's question is:

How can I get a shaped window into a round wall? The rectangular windows seem to work well but all the round/octagonal windows show the window hovering within a rectangular opening. I'm inclined to think that this will leak and am reluctant to use it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Window objects generally have to be written/designed to respond appropriately to placement in a curved wall. The outcome you are describing is typically what happens when the author of the object has not considered curved walls.

Thanks Ralph

Sounds like the solution is to find another window whose author considered its use in a curved wall. Can't wait to get to the sloped walls.

At least it's not my video card.

Singing the Workaround song:

Verse:

SEO cuts the circular wall.
Then a thin flat wall hides within.
Add round windo, that is all,
Then it opens
Rapunzel's hair falls...

Chorus:

"Work Work Workaround Workaround Workaround
Work Work Workaround Workaround Work."

Aha! I knew there must be a workaround. I've heard your song before though to a slightly different tune. But although I understand what you're suggesting, I guess I'm not quite there yet. I think I'd better finish off the second half of the tutorial before I try that.

Although the more I think about how one would actually build such a thing it may have been the designer's way of saying, "Nah, uh-uh, you don't want to do that. Even if we could figure out how to do it, they'd charge you way more than it'd be worth so hows about some nice glass block we have over in aisle three."

I feel honored to have received advice from Canada's Funniest Architect. Is there like a UN of Funniest Architects? Do you hang out with like Finland's Funniest Architect and those types?

Thanks

The humor in Finland is different than Canada. They have a different word for everything. And, when they aren't talkng on their cellphones, they like jokes about fish and sawdust. Wait. Just like Canada.

The reason a round window isn't working in a curved wall is that the GDL WALLHOLE command is rectangular and until the curved wall existed, a window builder would simply cut a WALLHOLE and then tell the windo routine to fill in the gaps with reference to the adjacent wall qualities. Like those guys who put the plywood over the opening and cut it out later.
There are many elements like this - the chamfer opening being one of them. Put one of these in a log wall and see what happens. I haven't tried to control an opening like this since the solid element Operation came along to help us workaround issues like this.

If'n it ain't real, its fake.
