SEO - Subtract Portion of Column from Wall

I can not seem to subtract the Column from wall. In 3D view it does not matter much, but in the plan view I want only the "plant-on" Half log to display.

Actually as I typed this message I though of a solution to us the Cylinder Shell object instead of the Column to model the Log. See Next Message for screen shot. Same 3D effect.

Hey Jay,

If I'm understanding, it sounds like you've run into a common complaint about SEOps - that the 2D view of elements is not modified to reflect the result of the operation. I can't recall if there is an outstanding wish on this or not ... but there should be...

May say "hi" driving through Truckee in a week or so after Yosemite ... planning on skiing at Squaw and Royal Gorge if the snow holds up. 😉

the simple workaround is to bring the wall forward to mask the post

The Patch tool can also be your friend in cases like this.

I will say though that SEO trimming in 2D would be useful. Last week I had to trim a barrel vaulted dormer window into a flat roof. I had to view in 3d, save as 2d lines, open in separate archicad and finally save as a module for my dormer windows, and again for the Reflected Ceiling Plan. Then repeat when the dormer changed slightly.

SEOs seem to slow ArchiCAD and i suspect making then change in 2d could be a processor hog.

Indeed, having different Intersection Group Number is the best way!

I had brought the Wall forward and the Column back, but alas I had the column on an unintended Layer and therefore they had the same intersection number. Display options and intersection numbers always seem to be the "hidden" answers. I am constantly re-working both of these settings. Someday I will have it all working seem-less, ha.

To Karl : the column actually was not "subtracting" with SEO in either 3D or 2D. The 3D subtraction was actually unnecessary anyway because most all views have both the wall and the column layer on and the column that is "to be removed" is complete incased in the wall and therefor not seen.
