Seo slow down?

I have a house with many rake and balloon walls that are seo'd to the roof, and the 3D, section and elevations are taking quite a bit more time than usual to generate. For example one elevation may take 30 sec. to generate when normally it would take about 5 sec. And I noticed that it would progressivly take longer with the more seo'e walls and roofs I had. Would many seo'd items have this affect? And the project has hardly any library parts or objects placed yet that would nomally slow things down.

Any idea?

Thanks,
Jim

It makes sense that SEOs would have some impact on performance. I haven't tested it myself and I've been using SEOs for so long now that I don't have a good basis for comparison.

Try making a copy of the building (or the file) and undo all the SEOs. That should give a pretty good idea of how much they slow it down. It's possible that doors and windows in the trimmed walls have some effect since they are treated as part of the walls.

Since the section tool first became a live model view in AC6.0 I have always separated the fully detailed building elevations and sections (for output) from the small, simple working versions (for speed). No matter how fast the computers get, I always want them to draw as much detail in section and elevation as possible, which means making them too slow for live model work.

Is this "Un-Link work in 2D Speak"?

Not necessarily. It can be a manually updated model view or a drawing view (which as far as I am concerned is still "linked" to the model as it is derived directly from it). I have never liked the term "unlinked" to describe an automatically generated drawing. Unlinking is when you drag a copy of an elevation to one side or copy/paste a view to another window for editing.

Well here is what I found out. When I remove all of the Seo from the walls, the 3d model, elev and sec's all generate in a timely matter, and that is with all doors and windows placed. Or when I remove all of the doors and windows from the Seo'd walls, all generates in a decent timely manner, just a little slower. So it seems that the doors and windows do have an affect when they are place in a wall that has been Seo'd.

And Jay, all elev and sec are live.

I wonder if trim to roof has this same slow affect? I may have to experiment with all of the extra time I have

Well now I eliminated all of the Seo'd operations on the walls and now have trimmed to roof, and all is fine as far as the generating the 3d, elev and sec's. I guess from now on I will use trim to roof if I have many of these rake and balloon wall situations, but I rellay like using seo, just in case roof pitches change etc. Its just a little more difficult to trim to roof when you have walls with roofs above and below. I just have to put roofs on separate layers and turn them off accordingly when I trim to "top" or "base".

No need for the different layers.
Just be sure to select only the walls and roofs you want to trim before doing the trim to roof command.
