Sprung Instant Structures

Has anyone ever drawn Sprung Instant Structures using AC9. The floor plans are doable in 2d I recon, but what of the aluminium structure, and stressed membrane walls/roof.
The website has sample drawings to use as a guide, but I am wondering about the 3d visualization
I still have my old TurboCAD v9 that could do the extrusions on a path fairly easy, but I havent got that far in AC.

Is it feasable?
Thanks
Craig

It's difficult to say without a picture, but I would hazard that it is possible but not easy - probably requiring advanced GDL.

Maxonform is probably the better approach.

I helped set up quite a few Sprung structures about 8 years ago, when I was sub-contracting.

You could probably mass a few objects and extrusions to model the shape and scale of various Sprung structures. It would really depend on why you need a Sprung 3D model...or plans, for that matter....and to what detail?

Sprung Structures need only a square of land and, unless things have gone far downhill at Sprung, their representatives are simply fantastic at positioning and setup of the frames....they go up quickly.

Do try GDL Toolbox. It is free and works in 9.

I have done quite a few tents with it.

For the aluminium structure, simple cylinder angled object from the standard library with the inclination parameter should do. Also, check the space frames.

Post a pic so that we see what have you done

I have drawn many sprung structures in autocad.
You can get the truss profiles off the sprung website.
Then extrude the profile to length.Shell to thickness. For rounded ends revolve just half the profile 180 degrees and copy the other. For the aluminum I beams take the same profiles, make A closed polyline, offset 1" inside and make two regions and copy them.Subtract the inside from one and keep inside only from the other. Extrude the inner 1" and the outer 12" and align to center.Union and make A copy to slice at midpoint for end arrays.
For kidney shaped structures extrude mid section on A path.

OK thanks garym
I tried it in ArchiCAD by Extruding the curved part of the wall to roof transition and then used Walls below and Roof above to onsert openings.

The final size is being worked out so will post some results when it has been finalized
