Story Settings questions

I must be doing something out of order (hopefully). We are setting up our template and in V10 we set story settings for the 1st floor to be 100' elevation and 12' 'height to next' but I can't do that in V12. How can I? It seems I have to start at 0 elevation.

Thanks,
Michele

where do i put my negative ????
"project zero" under preferances seems to be locked out and i cant put anything into it

EDIT: i changed referance 2 to "real level" and put in -40000. how do i get the story and section marketers to read teh "43000" instead of "3000" ? i cant find the option for the "real level refferance" to be selected... theres one under the gritd tool, but not the marker?

leave the project level alone
enter the other heights relative to the project (first floor) level.
for example if the first floor is at 86 feet above sea level,
rename one of the other references Sea Level and enter its height as
-86'

this is one of my pet hates... the story markers from the section elevation tool have not been allowed to show anything other than heights relative to project zero. i guess if you know gdl you might be able to customise this? (also, no idea if it's been updated in v12, haven't tried it since i discovered at its introduction in v10(?) that it doesn't allow for this most basic of functions. )
i/we use the elevation dimension marker in the dimension tool and set it to measure from reference level as opposed to project zero.

@archiben-> yeah, i know what you mean but i 've found that since heights for window cills for example or handrails need to be from ffl, we've found it easier to relate to that.... as you say, horses for courses...

This has been discussed a few times, most recently here and Rod was putting the finishing touches on a storey marker that worked really well with reference levels. Maybe after a PM he'll upload it to the depository.

GS is also well aware of the issue and hopefully they'll include the functionality in the near future.

Not sure what a 'preset dimention origin refference' is, but if you place a level dimension, then you can edit the text to reference the reference levels. Unfortunately this can't be done prior to placing them.

hmm dont really like manually editing things that have the ability to work automaticly.. leaves room for error on plan changes at a later date.

"refferance level origin".. changing it to example -40000 to put my job at RL 40000...

due to the amount of splits and changes in level in our desings, the auto (gravity) level tool is very handy (important)

personly i think the cons are outweighing the pros of not puting the job at its real level (for what im doing)

How do you change the height if we left the model at 0'-0"? How do we change the automatic story levels to 100'-0" etc...

Thanks,
Michele

At the bottom of the screen, you will see project Zero and you can define two other levels. I usually rename one of them "Sea level"
