Surfaces wigging out when navagating in open GL

I'm Modeling 2 x 2 veneer tiles and am experiencing erratic surface rendering behavior in open GL. Have always had this problem when moving around in Open GL and have had to adjust the view in order to capture a place where most of the surfaces look correct, esp. when I have a TV with a jpg image on the screen.

Does anyone know what I am talking about here, or is it my graphics card or something?

Is there a setting somewhere that will mitigate this problem?

Does screen wig out more when computer has been running for a while?
I had a graphics card do that once.
I concluded it was a heat build up problem after aiming a small external fan
into the open case.
New card fixed it.

Nope, this is an issue I have seen the whole time I'v been using AC
at least since open gl was introduced. 3 computers all using Nvidia graphics
cards.

Was hoping someone would know of some setting somewhere that fixes it.
I will probably go ahead and try to play with the settings one at a time to see if one makes it better.

I would upload a jpg showing the problem, but can't seem to get a small
enough image to post here.

Do you mean that the some surfaces are flickering when you move in OpenGL?

If so, that happens whenever two objects occupy the same space. Moving/resizing the objects so that they do not overlap, or using a SEOp to subtract one from the other to eliminate the overlap resolves this.

If something else, yeah, a screenshot will help. Just compress the screenshot to under 256 kb ... and there is a size (width/height) limit that isn't published, but decrease the size if file size alone isn't enough to let you attach the image.

I'm just curious why you are modelling each individual tile and the grout instead of attaching a JPG image of the tiles to the material that is used on the surface of the wall.
Is just seeing the material in 3D not sufficient for what you want?

Hi Carl,

It's not the material overlap thing. It's very strange that no one knows what this is. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to reduce the size of
a jpg created in the 3d window with a save as jpg command.
Do I need a to download some kind of utility onleine?

here is a jpg of the problem.
The TV is a good example, it has a picture that is jagged and incomplete.
If I navigate around in the 3d window it will flicker from jagged edges to no picture at all to a complete picture and if I stop navigating right when the picture looks good it will stay there until I start to navigate around again.
The tile on the wall also shows this, some tiles are deliniated correctly and some have streaks and highlights and dark spots that are not sun shades and shadows.

The trick here is to stop navigating when everything is looking okay.

Wow that was rediculous trying to get the file size right to attach.

Anyway, you can see 6 tiles that have corners that are not rendered and some streaks across the tile faces just above the fireplace.
The TV has the picture (a selected jpg in archicad) only on about half the
screen and jagged edges.

I have never been able to figure out what the heck is causing this, but it occurs on every job I do and on every computer I use (3 over the last 8 years)

Assuming you're on 15 (your signature) - the Plasma TV 15 displays the picture fine for me; rock solid.

If you're using that same library part... and the image on screen is from setting the parameter for 'use custom picture', then try copying just that part into a fresh/empty file and see how it behaves. Pull your tiles away from the wall ... or since you said in the other thread that they are on their own story, select only the tiles (not your grout plane) and see what happens.

You might have some weird stuff far away in space? If you marquee just the area shown in your screenshot and view that in 3D, does the problem continue?

Also: Your graphics drivers are up to date from the manufacturer's web site?
